Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a nice holiday! We are on our second round of the stomach flu in the house  – so not the best start of the year here…

Anyway, let´s start this week with a rug update. Do you remember my post “New rug – keep it or return it?“. Well, I returned it as I wanted a softer and lighter one, and right before Christmas we got this amazing handwoven “Olbia Perla” rug from Tisca in the house. It´s seriously the most wonderful rug I have ever walked on, as it feels like getting a foot massage every time I put my feet on it. I´m in love!

I´m thinking about changing the sofa cover back to black again, and I think this white rug with stand out and look even more amazing when we do. What do you think? Black or white sofa?

New Year tablesetting_blue

We were planning on having a New Year´s Eve party in our house, but unfortunately we are both not feeling so well, and had to cancel our plans for tonight.

The table is all set anyway, as I had to test out some new stuff I have bought for the party, along with some of our Christmas presents. And even though we will only be two for dinner tonight, it´s nice to have festive surroundings… 😉

If you are in need of more last minute tablesetting ideas for New Year´s you can see here and here.

I hope you are all enjoying the holidays! I´ve been very sick the last few days ( ..and I´m still not feeling so well), but before that we had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas eve with family in our house. Here are some photos of the table setting together with our Christmas tree.

This year we went for white, silver, and homemade gingerbread-stars on our three.

Remember the DIY Christmas wreath I made earlier this December? Well, this time I made nine small ones for each plate.

Bordekking Jul

It´s only a couple of days left until Christmas eve, and for all of you that are having guests this year I´m sharing 10 table setting ideas for Christmas today. They are all decorated by me during the last few years, and hopefully they will give you some inspiration..

Christmas idea - table

This one is actually from the Constitution Day, but works perfectly for Christmas as well. Around the napkin I have made a napkin.ring out of rosemary. As for flowers, you can just replace them with something more Christmassy..

If you don´t have a tablecloth you can use wallpaper leftovers like I have done here.

Flowers and greens are a must on the table if you ask me.

Cinnamon sticks are very decorative on the napkin. It smells heavenly too!

Leftovers from your Christmas tree? Use the branches on the table, and lay them around a centrepiece flower decoration.

There has been a lot going on in the Stylizimo house lately, and as you have seen in some of my earlier posts I have been moving my office around from room to room as the renovations has been going on. Thankfully, we are getting close the finish line and with that I am also able to share an additional renovation project that has been going on.

When we bought the house, there was a huge fireplace in the middle of the living room that not only took a lot of space – it did not do much good warming up the room either. So, I have been really wanting to do something with this but my research for a solution ended up in costly alternatives due to the job of removing the old fireplace and building a new one that would fit a fireplace insert.

But thankfully, I came across the Norwegian brand “Nordpeis” and their module based Panama system which made the project much more doable. It is quite clever actually, and you wonder why this has not been done before. The whole system is made up of modules which makes it very easy to build but still giving you flexibility to tailor the fireplace to your needs. Examples include a one-side or two-side insert, firewood storage or a bench.

After visiting Nordpeis´s Concept store and looking at all the models they have on display there, I ended up with a two-sided insert giving me a view of the fire from two sides. In addition I got the module with a big storage room for firewood, and I love how it turned out. The insert is beautiful to look at and with its sliding guillotine door you get that exclusive feeling. Adding that to the clean and modern design of the whole modular system, I have to say this fireplace upgraded the look and feel of the whole living room. It is funny how something that looked like monstrous job ended up taking two days, one day removing the old fireplace and actually just 4 hours setting up the new one.

It is good to say that I am finally welcoming winter as I am sure I will be able to stay warm now with this new fireplace, and I look forward to gazing at the dancing flames.

Are you looking for a new fireplace yourself?
