Smart shelving

This summer I made a new shelving beside and behind our sofa, as we were in lack of place to have books and decoration. I would of course loved to have Montana or String shelves but I had to find a cheaper solution.  Since I wanted it customized for our living room, I ended up with some shelves I bought at Ikea that I cut in the size I needed. The shelf at the top is made of three shelves that I put together, so we got a shelf behind the sofa as well.

Now we have lots of space for books etc. and I´m very happy with the result. I love when I can do big changes like this on a low budget!

Concrete_living room Grey_livingroomIn our second living room, down in the basement, it´s all about shades of grey at the moment. The grey sofa is a DIY I did two years ago and it´s still holding up. It´s made of two single beds that I upholstered in a grey upholstery fabric. I made some pillows in the same fabric as well, but I have also added new pillows in different shades of grey every now and then. By using different textures and tones, it makes it all look a bit more interesting I think. It also goes well together with the heated concrete floor that we have downstairs.

Do you like shades of grey, or are you more up for colors at the moment? I would love to hear your thoughts?

DIY candleholderI made this candle holder two years ago, and since I have a lot of new readers here on my blog I want to share it again in case you are searching for a simple weekend project this Autumn. This is also nice in the wintertime decorated with pine etc.

You need a jar, a leather belt, some twine (or a wire), heather flower and a candle. Cut the belt and make some holes for the twine /wire. Then put the heather flower underneath.

(Remember: Candles require attention – all the time! Make sure to move the leather belt to one of the sides when you are burning the candle.)

Tablesetting fallAutumn Table setting

Yesterday I had some friends over for dinner, and on the menu I had the traditional Norwegian dish “Fårikål”. Since this is a typical Autumn meal,  I wanted to create a table setting that would go with the theme, so I went out and found some decorative leaves. I also used the apples that I had as leftovers after the apple cake I made for dessert.

Candles autumn

Since the dining table is in our living room, I usually keep a color scheme that goes with the rest of the room, so I used my grey linen table cloth together with grey napkins. And to make it more cosy now that it´s getting darker outside, I had a lot of candles on the table, but also around the house..
