5. Drømmelampa over alle i mine øyne!

DIY outdoor sofa

DIY OUTDOOR SOFA

I´ve mentioned earlier that we made a DIY outdoor sofa on the top level on our terrace, and now with the new pillows it not only looks better, but it´s much more comfy as well. My plan was actually to make pillows myself, but when I found these in the right size at an affordable price at Ikea, I bought some instead.

To make the sofa we first made a solid frame using treated materials, before we covered the fronts and sides with the same type of panel as we used on the railing on the terrace. On the top we used the same decking as we have on the rest of the terrace.

The height on the sofa is all together approx. 50cm and the width 60 cm.

After treating the wood with Jotun Visir, we painted it in the same color as the house and railing – Optimal 9938 Dempet sort.

The sofa works perfect as a sun bed as well, and with the pillows it´s now a new favorite place to spend our time whenever we are out on the terrace.

And with this relaxed setting, I´m now taking a few weeks off to enjoy summer here in Norway. There will still be some updates on my blog, but most of the action will be on my Instagram.

I wish you all a lovely summer! If you are in need of some simple and fun activities to do in the summer, you can check out my Stylizimo´s Summer Checklist.

My summer checklist

SUMMER CHECKLIST

This year I´ve made myself a summer checklist with some of my favorite things to do in the summer. The summer is passing by so fast so it´s nice to have a list to make sure you do all the things that make the most of it. I always have big expectations when it comes to summer, but when I think of it, it´s actually the simple things that makes it special. The things that I enjoyed doing as a child, and that brings out the nostalgia in me. I´m sure you have your own favorite things to do in the summer, but hopefully my checklist can give you some ideas as well.

15 THINGS I LIKE TO DO IN THE SUMMER

  • Swim in a lake
  • Fill a straw with berries
  • Read a book
  • Picking wildflowers
  • Eating lots of ice cream
  • Lay in the grass and look at the clouds
  • Play badminton
  • Walk barefoot in the grass
  • Make a head wreath with wildflowers
  • Having a picnic in the park or by the lake
  • Drinking lemonade
  • Go fishing
  • Having a nap in a hammock
  • Barbecue
  • Collect seashells at the beach

Stylizimo House_black

A house can change a lot in character just by painting it in a new color, and one of the first things I thought of when we bought our house 1,5 years ago, was to paint it all black. I´ve always had a thing for black houses, and I was certain that this house would look better in black. The grey wooden ceiling would also then look better.
Another thing was that we didn´t want to highlight the windows like the way it was done before, so we chose to paint them in the same color so they “disappeared” a bit.

We chose to paint with Jotun Optimal and the windows with Jotun Optimal Window and Door. Both in color 9938 Dempet Sort, a color that we have used in several places inside the house as well.

We are very happy with the result, and we think 9938 Dempet Sort fits the house a lot better! Now we just have to find some cool lamps, fix the slope and not to mention planting some flowers/trees to make it look more welcoming on this side as well. The crooked railing in front of the house will also disappear.

What do you think of the transformation?

HERE YOU SEE HOW THE HOUSE LOOKED BEFORE WE PAINTED IT:

// My own collection

399 memories Stylizimo By Emmeselle

Would you like to win a Stylizimo by Emmeselle framed silkscreen? Emmeselle and I are celebrating summer and want to give away one of the 8 butterfly illustrations from our collection. Just leave me a comment here or on Instagram and tell me which one you like the most ( you´ll find them all here ), and we will draw a winner in two weeks.

Stylizimo by Emmeselle is a series about those we have lost, but who forever will live in our heart. About the gratitude we have for the time we had together – and for all the good memories. I chose to use butterflies because these means something very special for me. After my grandmother died, butterflies have appeared on the most strange places, and I can´t help getting the feeling that it is my grandmother keeping an eye on me and making sure I´m fine.

The collection is a handmade limited edition and are all signed and numbered.

We are also having 15% off on all the prints the whole summer, and the framing and shipping is free of charge! You can buy them here.

Update: The lucky winner is KASIA. Congratulations! Thank you all for participating.
