This week has been all about press events and Oslo Design Fair, and my head is full of inspiration! Let´s start with Oslo Design Fair – the most important meeting place for design and interior decor in Norway. I´ve spent two days at the fair, mostly listening to some very interesting talks, but also looking at all the exhibitions to see what´s coming…
AUTUMN TRENDS
One of many highlights at the design fair was the Tendencies area curated by Kirsten Visdal, Jannicke Kråkvik, Alessandro D’Orazio and Silje Aune Eriksen. Together they present three important tendencies: Japanese influence and Nordic style, decadence and history, and green awareness.
Japanese influence and Nordic style – The Japanese-Nordic trend has lasted a while but the trend is that we now exchange even more of the culture, life and processes. We brew our coffee slowly and take time to create peace and balance in life. Seeing cherry trees blossom in Japan or enjoying the smell of forest do something with us. We are happy to live in harmony with nature. In this trend there is much light colored wood with leather, pottery and tactile fabrics that apply. The objects are simple, functional and have good quality.
Decadence and history – We are also seeking safety through something recognizable from the past and take back decor and ornament. The deep, slightly burnt colors will come back. Warm colors like ochre, mustard and chocolate brown will replace beige and grey. Sculptures, old objects and paintings, and use of colored glass, mirrors and velvet are also a part of this trend. By mixing this with the modern it becomes personal and playful!
Green awareness – The green trend continues and we are more aware of the climate and environment. We have realized that we have to take care of our planet and use technology to help. We want to cultivate ourselves, eating healthy, green and locally. We decorate with plants, and use pink and dark red, and take good care of our things, so that the next generation can benefit from them.
Everything was nicely put together in an inspiring environment at the tendencies area. The stylists wanted it look like a shop, so they could inspire all the shop owners visiting on how to display their products. It was actually a little Pop up Shop there as well, where you could buy some of the products displayed. Great idea!
What do you think of these trends? One in particular that you feel you can relate to?
