It seems that we have to wait quite some time for all our belongings that we have shipped from Los Angeles, so this weekend I had to be creative and handy(!), so we can have a “home” while we are waiting…
One of the things that I made this weekend was this dining table inspired by the lovely blog “Helt Enkelt”, and I´m very happy with the result. I got exactly the look that I wanted -rustic and cosy!
Here is how our dining table looked like before when we lived in LA.
So what do you think? Have you made any furniture yourself before?

Hej Nina!

Hej Nina.

lovely nina. i too am awaiting some furniture for our new home. for the moment if we want fine dining, it happens on the wooden sledge. if the table takes much longer i may have to build one of these – it would translate nicely into a potting table or a picnic table in my garden! x
Wonderful job – I am saying it always: women can be so creative! The table looks fantastic!!!

Hi,
Just saw your table on Apartment Therapy, you absolutely rock, it is a great idea, I love it.

Many tables have tops that can be adjusted to change their position, shape or size, either with foldable extensions or sliding parts that can alter the shape of the top. Some tables are entirely foldable for easy transportation like camping table.
I just moved to a new apt and need a dining room table. I think I may try your idea! Thanks!
can you share with us the measurement of your table? i’m looking for a dining table on a budget and this one is perfect.
Yana: This table is 220cm long, and 89cm wide.
The material is out of spruce if you wonder.
I´m glad you like it 🙂

Åh, forelskelse!! Jeg har funnet min drømme(interiør)blogg! <3
I have looked online for the stain you used. Can you PLEASE provide the source??
Thank you!
The stain is from Jotun, Lady. ( http://www.jotun.com/www/com/20020113.nsf!OpenDatabase&mt=&l=uk)
i tried that web site can’t find it when i copy and paste into browser. i found the main site but can’t find that color match.
It works here, so then I don´t know. They don´t write about all their products and you won´t find the driftwood stain on ther webpage but I thought maybe you could find your nearest dealer and call them and ask about the driftwood stain from Lady, Jotun.
love this ! thanks for the tut 🙂

this is fab-u-lous! thanks for sharing and i hope you don’t mind that i posted it on my bloggity blog for DIY day.
cheers!
The table looks great! We are thinking about building a table like this but are curious how you attached the legs to the table top. Looking at the legs on the site it doesn’t look like there are holes for attaching the table legs.
any recs on proportions? how long did you make it?
how great is this! I think I just found a great idea for my kitchen to come.. I was planning to do something with wood and some legs from IKEA this just made it all falling in place
Thanks so much.. funny you got the paint idea from Anna Malin I have a mail from her in my save box for a long time with the name of that paint 😉 I loved the effect at first site 😉
That really is a lovely table. I wish I could make really fine tables out of scratch as you can! 🙂
I really like your work.Very informative for the people
I love the stain you used on your table. Who makes it?
The drift wood stain is from “Jotun”. It´s really wonderful!!
brilliant!
Hei!
MVH Ina 🙂
Tusen takk, Ina!

Hi Nina, I just found your blog and I am in love! This is such an amazing idea and you did it so beautifully. Could you shed a little more detail about how to screw the boards together? I really want to try this out! Thank you
Where did you get teh stain from. I can only find this color in exterior stain? thank you
That’s amazing! I was recently inspired to make my own desk. I was thinking of buying those legs and attaching it to a table top I already have. How did you attach the legs to the table top? Are there holes for you to put screws in? Thanks, I really appreciate the help. Love your blog!!
Hi Wendieee,
Thank you for your comment. No, I did not attach the table top to the legs. There are no holes in te legs from Ikea.
Good luck!
Nina
Just wonderful! And so simple. Found you on pinterest!

Thanks for this post, I found it linked from AT awhile ago and recently made it. I have to point out a really important modification. The 1×3 (or whatever size) strips you used on the bottom as braces should be standing on their side so the 1 inch side, not the 3 inch side is against the planks. I did this how you pictured and in only a few days the sides of the table started bowing down. Placing the braces vertically as I’ve suggested fix this – because the braces will not flex as much (think of an ‘I-beam’) in that direction.
Additionally, I added another set of bracing strips about an inch away so that the top of the leg piece fits snug in there between them so the table top doesnt shift around. I actually also chopped 2 little 1×1 inch wide pieces and put them on the ends between the two strips so it makes a nice little box that the legs fit snugly into.
Minwax has a new stain pretty similiar to the one you used.
Great project!
dining table looks a very gorgeous and attractive in restaurants and royal hotels. this is durable and useful thing for your home. i like the dining table which are shown in the post.
This table is so amazing. It looks simple but very functional.Easy to do and I think that even woman can make it with the help of tutorials.
great blog i a in australia and wondering where to get the driftwood stain from?
Anonymous: I have no idea I´m afraid. It´s a grey stain. You should ask someone who sell paint.
Nina
I don’t see the finished table?
It´s in the last picture 🙂 See the table here as well: http://stylizimo.com/albums/photo/view/album_id/444/photo_id/2347
I have also used ut as a desk..
Good luck! 🙂
My husband and I WILL be doing this! Any suggestions for other legs if we don’t have an IKEA around? THANK YOU for the inspiration!

me again from Australia. do you know what sort of timber it is? thanks
Is lady the brand of the stain? cant quite read it in the photo. i keep looking at tables and this is just so perfect. Love it 🙂
Those furniture are simply amazing. I love the simplicity of the design. It makes more space as well. The table on the last picture looks stunning. The simplicity adds elegance to it.
Thank you so much for the tutorial… im wondering if i can apply this to other kinds of furniture… i love to revive old furniture… i wanna try it..
When buying dining room table and chairs, it is important not to settle for the first offer you get and to bargain until the last minute. In most houses, dining room tables and chairs are the most important pieces of furniture and as such, choosing the right set is very important.
I agree with the previous comment. Dining table is where the family gathers together. It is one of the best places for the members of the family to talk with each other while relishing the food. Thus, it is good to make an essential decision in choosing the best and the right dining table for you.
The tip on using sand papers to remove sharp edges is very useful. Furniture made up of wood should be cleaned to prevent cuts and other minor injuries caused by sharp edges. I love the color of your dining table. It is indeed rustic and cosy. Not only that, it’s classy as well. I look forward to learning more furniture and styling tips from you.
Wonderful job – I am saying it always: women can be so creative! The table looks fantastic!!!
lovely, you are a very good artist!
This is truly creative, awe-inspiring, and simply magnificent. I could think of many other words to describe what you did for that dining table.
Hilsen Line 🙂
I made this table yesterday. I used dark stain on pine. It’s my new computer table and it looks fabulous!
LOVE this!!!! I was just talking to my hubby about how I wanted to have him make a new dining table…this looks amazing! Thanks for the tutorial!
Simplicity at it’s best! Your dining table and chairs will surely blend perfectly on the color of your walls.
Nice log and nice commenting gather here but i am looking for some latest
Matbord design
Draw out a scaled plan of the dining room size, the position of the doors and windows and other furniture on paper. This will help determine the size of the dining table you should purchase.
So since there ins’t any screw holes or any real way to attach the legs to the table top, how do you make it stay? If you bump into it, will it fall off? I really want to make this desk but not if it’s not sturdy enough to handle simple bumps and pushes. I’m kind of clumsy and my desk will take some abuse.
If you have used heavy enough boards it should be a problem. But you can attach a metal strip with holes in to screw it to the boards if you like… Difficult to describe in words(and English :))..
I don’t think I can make own dining table like this. Thanks for this wonderful, this may be possible now.
Women always have great ideas, Really very Amazing dining table
thank you for this tutorial! i made the table last week and absolutely LOVE it! we’re picking up chairs in a few days and i can’t wait for our first meal 🙂
did you attach the legs to the table? how did you do it? there aren’t holes in the legs to do so, so i wasn’t sure if i need to drill through them or not. thanks in advance.
You are welcome! I´m so glad you like it 🙂
No, I did not attach the legs to the table since there is no holes in the legs. But it may be possible if you use some kind of “metal strip” with holes in( you know what I mean?)It´s safer with kids.
Enjoy!
Nina x
This looks soooooo amazing, thank you for sharing
Wow I am so inspired by this easy DIY dining table. So chic and no one would know you didn’t spend a fortune on it!
You make it sound so easy! I’ve been trying to figure out how I can build a table that is the specific (unique) size that I need, and this is perfect. Thanks for the tips!
The chairs you use will further dress your table up or down, so include this in your research and shopping before you make a final table purchase.

You are soooo amazing!!!!! This stuff is very awe inspiring. I’m a lot older than you, however this is awesome, and one is never too old to try something new. I will follow your website with interest. Thankyou Nina, and God Bless.
OK. I know what I’m gonna do next week-end!!
Choosing a dining table goes beyond simple aesthetics. Its location determines its style and materials. In kitchens, a hard-wearing solid wood top is crucial.
I am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.
Wow it looks great and very professional.
Great job, the chairs also fit great with the table!
You make it all look so easy! Gorgeous. I love your sense of style, it so so gorgeous
making your own dining table is a nice project because you can decide how long and what color you will use to make it more beautiful. Thanks for the guidelines on how to have a good start.
What are the dimensions of your table? I like the proportions, and how thick is the wood you went with?
Thanks!

The drift wood stain is from “Jotun”.
The dining room is the most versatile room of all in the home. It is where you and your family enjoy meals, have discussions, children play and study. It is also the room that is utilized the maximum times during the day.

Wow! I love those photos. Top notch!
Never thought of a table as beautiful until I saw this. Love the pictures!
Measuring the dining room and charting out the details of the room interiors is a must for choosing the right dining table. Draw out a scaled plan of the dining room size, the position of the doors and windows and other furniture on paper. This will help determine the size of the dining table you should purchase.

What a beautiful table! After a few years, have you noticed any sag in it or need for center support? I love your tutorial so much!
This is a nice dining table, but I don’t know, I prefer those glass top tables. For me, it looks more elegant, plus easier to clean too.
I’m really impressed. This looks seriously amazing!! Great job and love the style of the photos.

Love this post!. CAN I ASK YOU HOW LONG YOUR TABLE WAS WHEN YOU FINISHED?
Painting the chair with a plain white paint made it simple yet exquisite. I also love the idea of using a wooden plank to make a perfect table for the whole family. You might as well use an organic polish to give a shiner and cleaner look to it.

Hej
Virkelig flot bord!

Beautiful! Can you show how the legs are attached? Did you screw into the joining block or the tabletop?
Thank you!
Hi, I love this table that you have produced, simple but beautiful. I am in the process of producing a similar table (approx 1500x750mm) which I would like people to sit at the ends of (i.e. 4 on the sides and 2 on the ends). My question is how far back from the ends of the table did you position the Ikea legs so that people can sit with their legs underneath and not be hampered by the support leg? Hope that makes sense…thanks.
